  • Understanding the Man: Henry VIII - Part Two

    02/06/2018 Duration: 30min

Jun 2, 2018 at 6:00pm   This is the second and last part on my "Understanding the Man" series on King Henry VIII. As many of you may already know, King Henry VIII is my favorite monarch of the Tudor dynasty. If it wasn’t for his reign I do not believe the Tudors would be as popular as they are today. In this episode I continue on my journey to explain the Henry I have learned to love...and hate. In this series on Henry VIII I want to take a different look at the king who executed two of his six wives. My mission is to make those of you who look at him as a tyrant to see what made him into the man he became later into his reign.  --- Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rebecca-larson/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/reb

  • Most Fearless Women in Tudor England

    05/05/2018 Duration: 19min

May 5, 2018 at 8:15pm   Episode: Most Fearless Women in Tudor England   I recently finished reading a couple of books about Mary Tudor, sister of King Henry VIII and Queen of France; it got me thinking about how fearless some of these women in the Tudor period really were. By today’s standards they would not be considered as brave (depending on what part of the world you live in of course), but in 16th century England the things these women did may have been considered reckless and disobedient by their male counterparts. -----  Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rebecca-larson/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rebecca-larson/support

  • Episode: Edward VI's Regency Council

    02/04/2018 Duration: 26min

Apr 2, 2018 at 12:37pm   Episode: Edward VI's Regency Council   After producing my series on Lady Jane Grey I thought I should step back a bit and look at the beginning of Edward VI's reign. As many of you already know I have an obsession with Thomas Seymour - it is at the time of Edward accession to the throne that things began to sour for Thomas Seymour...where he may have foresaw great favor and wealth, realty brought him much less. Thomas Seymour was not even trusted by King Henry VIII to be on the regency council of his own nephew. This episode will focus on the events that occurred prior to King Henry VIII's death and will end with each of the sixteen men on the council and a bit about them. I would also like to take a minute to apologize for the slaughtering of English place names, surnames and events -- I didn't realize until after the fact that I may have done a bit more research on how to pronounce a few things - my apologies, in advance. -----  Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca L

  • The Life of Lady Jane Grey (Part Three)

    16/03/2018 Duration: 27min

Mar 16, 2018 at 7:34pm   The Life of Lady Jane Grey (Part Three)   The life of Lady Jane Grey has been told many times. Most of the stories mention an abusive home where Jane felt trapped. But they do not often make you feel like you are getting a glimpse at the real Jane.  My series on Jane will hopefully open your eyes to interesting bits you did not know.  -- Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sources/References: De Lisle, Leanda. • The Life of Lady Jane Grey (Part One)

    16/02/2018 Duration: 15min

Feb 16, 2018 at 7:22pm   The Life of Lady Jane Grey (Part One)   There were many reasons why I wanted to do a series on Lady Jane Grey.  1. February is the month she was executed 2. I have read 'Crown of Blood' by Nicola Tallis 3. I just finished 'Three Sisters Who Would Be Queen' by Leanda De Lisle 4. BBC recently had a series on her as well, so Jane is hot-topic this month. The life of Lady Jane Grey has been told many times. Most of the stories mention an abusive home where Jane felt trapped. But they do not often make you feel like you are getting a glimpse at the real Jane.  My series on Jane will hopefully open your eyes to interesting bits you did not know. -- Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    04/02/2018 Duration: 17min

Feb 4, 2018 at 1:42pm   Here is the last episode in the series on Elizabeth, Queen of England.  As this journey to discover the real Elizabeth Tudor, Queen of England comes to an end I have decided to focus on two important women of the era. They were both female, both royal by birth and both Queens in their own right, but being cousins is what caused the most havoc in their lives of these two women. I am of course speaking of Elizabeth Tudor and Mary Stuart. Jan 1, 2018 at 11:28am   Elizabeth Tudor has always been on the back-burner for me. While I love the fact that she is the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn I’ve never been as interested in her reign as I have been for her father’s. 24/11/2017 Duration: 22min

In this final part of the series I look into the interrogations of those around Katheryn Howard, her confessions, final words and execution. This series has truly been a labor of love. • Katheryn Howard - Part Two

    12/11/2017 Duration: 21min

In the last podcast we ended with Katheryn Howard married and Thomas Cromwell was executed. If you missed it, I’d recommend going back and listening to that one first, it was called Katheryn Howard: Part One.  As a queen of England Katheryn is only remembered for being the fifth wife of Henry VIII, and was executed. If it hadn’t been for her scandalous downfall, and said execution, we would not have as much interest in Katheryn as we do today.   Here is the "transcript" so to speak for this podcast: http://www.tudorsdynasty.com/katheryn-howard-part-two/  -- Written by: Rebecca Larson Voiced by: Rebecca Larson Produced by: Rebecca Larson Music Credits:  Suonatore di Liuto Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/  -- Further Reading: Russell, Gareth; Young and Damned and Fair – The Life of Catherine Howard, Fifth Wife of Henry VIII (2016) Loades, David; The 6 Wives of Henry VIII (2014) Licence, Amy; The S
