Synopsis
Poverty-stricken, hard-working Jane Arleth could not shake the feeling that she did not belong in Lew Lauderdale’s wealthy and sophisticated world. Still, he had taken great pains to see her and made no secret of the fact that he had fallen in love with her beauty. What harm could there be in sampling some of the carefree pleasures he and his circle of friends had to offer?
But instead of finding the happiness she seeks, Jane suffers terrible humiliation and pain when she discovers the truth about Lauderdale’s world—and about herself. Then, just when Jane feels she has nowhere to turn, she finds help from a mysteriously familiar gray-eyed gentleman…
