  • Agile 2008 - Emily and Geoff Bache - Programming with the Stars and the TextTest framework

    19/11/2008 Duration: 23min

I spoke with Emily and Geoff at the end of the conference and we were all a bit tired.  Emily performed in the Coding With The Stars stage at Agile 2008 and gave a great run for the gold.  One especially interesting segment was the customer story testing segment.  For this segment Geoff played the customer and wrote a story test in TextTest and then Emily and  Michael Feathers made it pass.  This appearance of the customer was well received by the audience and judges. Finally I get Geoff on a podcast.  I recorded him last year but he will jump the queue with this one.  Geoff works on a heuristic scheduling problem that is somewhat tricky to write acceptance and regression tests around.  To solve this problem he did wrote his own test framework, TextTest.I hope you enjoy this power duo and I suspect we will see more of them in the agile space.-bob

  • Agile 2008 - Arlo Belshee - Naked Planning, Promiscuous Pairing and other Unmentionables

    06/11/2008 Duration: 52min

What can I say about this secular messianic figure that is constantly challenging and stretching agile methods to suit his will. Must be the portland air. We talked about Naked Planning for quite a while. He has essentially taken many of the techniques from Lean Software Development and warped them to suit his particular organization. He has a penchant for experimenting with his team and with his mind and he shares the results of those experiments in this interview. Enjoy -bob payne

David Celimsky is one of the development powerhouses behind RSpec, one of the first frameworks for Ruby to implement the Behavior Driven Development process. BDD is an interesting process and I like the increased move toward using language that the "user" can understand when describing or systems in executable form. I can now put another face (not Dave Astels as I usually do) to RSpec David. David is great to talk to and I recommend accosting him at conferences to start up a conversation. Enjoy Bob Payne
