Synopsis

Running is great, so why aren't the podcasts? Bad Boy Running is a podcast for runners who are bored of the dull and dry podcasts currently on offer. Hosted by friends Jody Raynsford and David Hellard, both running journalists, bloggers and lovable idiots, the show features the conversations they'd have in the pub focusing as much on the camaraderie and social side of the sport as well as the technical. Whether you're a 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon runner or ultramarathon runner, you'll find something in here to be offended by. Bad Boy Guarantee.

  • Ep 73 - Colin McCourt is back!

    31/01/2018 Duration: 02h06min

In one of our most popular episodes, we spoke with former GB athlete Colin McCourt onto the podcast to talk about his 16 min 5k challenge which could have resulted in £1700 if he won or 17 tattoos of his mates' names adorned across his body if he lost. Well, he's back and his challenge has concluded... and he did it! (Oh wait... maybe we should have added a SPOILERS warning there...) In this episode Colin picks up where we left on his journey and reveals: The point where he got REALLY worried he wasn't going to make it What his mates thought when he finally succeeded What's happened to him in his past year during the challenge and how life has changed Why he never got the £40 Dominos deal he wanted at the end of the 5k His best kit he received and used during the last 12 months What he would have done DIFFERENTLY if he was doing it all again ... and what his next challenge might be The Silk Cut is at 34 minutes if you want to jump straight to the interview and not listen to some talk about running and the #

Here's what you'll hear on this episode: Camille reveals how she approached her latest three record-breaking races Why Comrades was such an important race for Camille (and the book she read at 13 that inspired her love of running) How Camille explains how she trains for hills... when you don't have any hills How Camille almost didn't finish Comrades even though she was metres from the end (mistaken for celebrating too early!) Advice from Camille on why you don't need books to improve your running (you just need to follow this one simple rule) Camille reveals the exact amount of nutrition you need for an ultra that made the biggest difference to her running Why she never does back-to-back long runs, despite doing weekend mileage of 40-50 miles (here's how) Why Camille trains 90% on th

  • Ep71 Pt2 - Sean Conway continued

    12/12/2017 Duration: 02h10min

  • Ep71 Pt 1 - Sean Conway

    28/11/2017 Duration: 01h39min

It's one of the episodes you've been waiting for... Jody and David speak with Sean Conway, adventurer extraordinaire and multiple record holder. But that's not before the chaps go off on a complete tangent about news and current affairs (seriously, not seriously), wannabe explorers wearing pants up Snowden and midlife crises.  In this episode, here's what you'll discover: Why Sean sold his business for £1... and then what he did with that £1 How to cycle across the world on a budget... ... and survive being knocked over with a car (and then going on to CONTINUE the run) Why Sean WANTS you to become an investment banker and forget about  David comes up with an idea to discourage people running bad marathons David then comes up with the strangest idea for a new race, involving the star of Con Air David reveals his race nightmare at the Edinburgh Ultra (and finally settles the question of which is better... PS It's not Edinburgh Marathon) Watch out for the second part of the interview where Sean reveals more a

  • Ep70 - Camille Herron on breaking the 100 mile record

    14/11/2017 Duration: 01h42min

Ok, this week's episode is a bit special. And not in that way. Bad Boy Running has bumped this right up the schedule because we had Camille booked in to speak to Jody and David simply for her badass drinking antics (and the fact she's sponsored by a brewery). But as if by a huge amount of luck, Camille ( @runcamille ) only went and broke the 100 mile record at the Tunnel Hill 100 #TunnelHill100... on her FIRST attempt at a 100 miler. CRAZY! It's a slightly shorter interview with Camille on this episode but the guys manage to pack in: How Camille manages to sneak in a beer or two on the race and how she discovered it as a race strategy (she even has a medical explanation which leaves the lads confused) Exactly what Camille eats when she's running her 100 milers (or any race) Why her weekly mileage will make your eyes water (no, seriously. SERIOUSLY this is ridiculous) Why she decided to make the transition from road ultras to trail And what she's planning next Seriously, this is a great one. Join the convers

    30/10/2017 Duration: 01h19min

David has been to film (but not partake in) the OCR World Championships. They offer their opinions and it would appear that David's elitism has begun to deteriorate. Jody talks about why it's hard to compare Ultra Running with OCR and has an idea to discuss at the end about a possible BBR spin off. Join the conversation! 21/10/2017 Duration: 54min

Here's the second part of the BBR interview with Rat Race's Jim Mee. If you've not listened to the first part, go back and listen first otherwise this ain't going to make much sense... It's been promised for LOOOOONNNNNGGG time, but here it is at last, the lads' interview with Rat Race founder Jim Mee. Jody and David dive into the world of Rat Race The guys speak to Jim about the state of OCR and why so many races are disappearing - and what seems to be taken their place Jim looks back at some of the crazier events (a few of which he hinted may be resurrected...) David comes up with some suggestions for the headline act at Rat Race Dirty Weekend (and accidentally reveals the actual act) Jim explains exactly why he feels the need to get naked at every race and they preview the forthcoming Edinburgh Ultra (you know, a race with Edinburgh in the name that is actually based in Edinburgh - take note, Edinburgh Marathon) If you want to get involved then join the Facebook group! • Ep65 - The Western States 100 with David Harvey

    01/10/2017 Duration: 02h57s

After waving goodbye to the entrance fee, he got to training and tells us all about his preparation and his experience of actually running the race. Did sitting in a sauna help? • Ep62 - Dale Clutterbuck on The Beer Mile

    09/08/2017 Duration: 01h38min

There's little the guys love more than talking about beer. Ok, probably drinking beer... but that doesn't exactly make a great podcast episode. In this episode, Jody and David talk to British 1500m athlete Dale Clutterbuck who is looking to improve on his European Beer Mile record for the Beer Mile... but taking on the very best again in the Beer Mile World Champs shortly. Dale reveals all about correct beer chugging technique and the pitfalls of training for such an auspicious event. He also reveals what life was like at St Mary's, tells tales of a bust-up on the track and gives his uncensored opinion on the state of athletics. Also in this episode, Jody and David carry on the drinking theme by getting all nostalgic about the awful stuff they drank as teenagers... It's a pretty alcoholic and often nonsensical episode. Just the same as usual then... Enjoy! If you liked this episode, head over to iTunes, subscribe to the podcast and then go to Facebook and joint the Bad Boy Running Podcast Facebook Group. If y

  • Ep60 - The Hashing Episode with Philip Ralph, aka "Sweetheart"

    03/07/2017 Duration: 01h20min

Finally! It's the hashing episode... with special guest Sweetheart, aka Philip Ralph (if you're wondering why he has a nickname all is explained). Hash House Harriers are all over the world (self-styled as "drinking clubs with a running problem") and drinking is a BIG part of the draw. As a long time hasher David (aka Princess) tries to explain to Jody (aka Jody) the appeal of hashing and brings in his pal Philip (aka Sweetheart) to explain all.  The guys talk about the origins of hashing, what actually happens on a hash and whether Jody would be an absolutely idiot to attempt to come hashing and risk being given a hideously offensive nickname. Jody remains wholly skeptical of the whole thing throughout, while "Princess" and "Sweetheart" try to convince him of the fun communal aspect of hashing.
