09/07/2019 Duration: 13minMeet Sanders Hickey, Georgia Association Hall of Fame Nominee “It’s the greatest honor that I’ve ever had come my way,” Hickey said. “For somebody who got started in radio in his teen years and to have been as involved as I’ve been for all these years, just doing it every day. All of a sudden, this comes along. It is beyond special.” Sanders has seen friends, colleagues and mentors all take their place in the hall, but he never imagined himself joining them. Then, in late April, his phone rang. Hickey is nominated for induction into the Hall of Fame via the Career Achievement Award. Hickey’s career began in the early 1970s in Columbus, where he grew up. After spending time working in the press room at the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer newspaper, he went to a local country music radio station and asked for a job.
