Why did the Irish imigrate to America, why did the Germans?   Irish and German immigration 1st Ben- In 1812 to 1870, seven and half million people immigrated,  Halfway through the nineteenth century, a third of the Irish population immigrated to America, and one third germans did too, they did so because of the unemployment they faced and the civil unrest in their countries, they did it because of the near impossible hardships before them. The wave of immigration really affected a lot of cities. 2nd ricky approximately 90% of immigration was either german/irish.
