A quote by a guy I’ve known about but hadn’t heard of this one before, Carl Jung, “No tree… can reach the heavens unless its roots reach down to hell.” It’s based on this idea that most people, myself included, want the good without the bad, want the light without the dark, want the benefits of happiness and positivity, joy, gratitude, and elation. All without looking at the darkness from our past, or at the instinct to do things that we are embarrassed or ashamed of. Or to acknowledge the fear and insecurity that comes from life‘s pressure or shying away from a challenge. I hypothesize that many people don’t do personal development work on a regular basis because of this type of thinking… at least the discomfort, uncertainty, or misery that I have now is something that I know. I don’t want it to get worse than what I have now. When I start to uncover stuff I don’t want my life to get worse. Also, it takes a very very long time to break bad habits.
