SOLO, the dual-single project and short film, is a statement of independence and strength. The naming of this project coincides with all of the independent work I put into creating the songs and spearheading the video production. Writing, arranging and engineering from my living room studio, in my small Harlem apartment pushed me to create something very natural to me that emphasized how I felt at the time. As an indie artist its often difficult to find the help needed to create records so I spend time learning how to do it all myself. I work remotely to get production and mixing done which costs a fraction of the $$. SOLO is a statement of me being a true solo artist and confidently calming my independence with the music I create. It also has a counter meaning based on the songs included. Singer-songwriter Nekiya Ade was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. From those streets to the stage of the El Rey Theatre (opening for Grammy-winning artist Mya), Ade assembled a “Tribe” armed with her signature “Adetude.”    Her Tribe is fearless. Her Tribe is rebellious.  Ade’s debut EP LIT (2017) was followed by two singles in 2018, “A Way to Your Heart” and “Who She.”  “Who She” signaled Ade’s shift toward the everywoman and gave her Tribe an empowered retro hip-hop anthem to rail against the patriarchy. Music has always been a passion for Washington, D.C. native, Kevin Ross. He attended a performing arts high school and went on to earn a degree from Berklee College of Music.
