Bad ideas from Virginia are headed to Congress. We witnessed a take over of power of the Virginia state government by Democrats, and the Democrat legislators hastily passed sweeping gun restrictions. The judge overseeing the case against General Michael Flynn won’t accept the decision of the appellate court telling him to dismiss the abusive case against General Flynn. He is like an umpire trying to force the teams to play extra innings after the game is over. As General Flynn’s lawyer Sidney Powell wrote in her recent brief to the appellate court, “He, the players, and the spectators need to go home and turn off the floodlights.” Can you believe General Flynn still does not have this resolved and his personal freedom back? President Trump commuted the criminal sentence of long-time friend and supporter Roger Stone last week. Many Americans believed this commutation was long overdue since the prosecution of Roger Stone was politically motivated and based on the thinnest of gruel. As Justice Thomas wrote in Wednesday's, July 8, 2020 Supreme Court decision, “For over 150 years, the Little Sisters have engaged in faithful service and sacrifice, motivated by a religious calling to surrender all for the sake of their brother.” After the Obama Administration decided to force nuns and other religious believers to violate their conscience in the service of a leftist agenda or pay heavy, crippling fines, the Trump Administration changed the rules to give an exemption to the nuns and others similarly situated. This outraged the Attorneys General of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and, we now know, Justices Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Attacks against the Second Amendment are unremitting. A new attack strategy seeks to repeal statewide protections for law-abiding citizens to exercise their second amendment rights and focus on passing more meaningless restrictions at the local level. One of these meaningless and probably harmful gestures just took effect in the City of Alexandria, Virginia, this month. After the liberal controlled state legislature and governor of Virginia reversed strong firearm preemption laws, the City Council of Alexandria wasted no time to limit citizen’s Second Amendment rights in their jurisdiction. Can state electors cast their votes for whomever they chose in a presidential election? We witnessed several electors do just that in 2016, in an effort to deny Donald Trump his hard won victory by throwing the presidential election into the House of Representatives. On Monday, the US Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that states can punish electors who abandon their duties and try to game the system. By a slim margin of 5 to 4, the Supreme Court struck down a state law that banned state aid to religious schools. The Trump Administration won at the Supreme Court yesterday when the court decided by 7 votes to 2 votes to deny review of the asylum request of a Sri Lankan who was arrested 25 yards away from the US border after illegally entering the US.
