  • Bah-Jutsu (Christmas Episode)

    14/12/2020 Duration: 01h04min

The third annual Christmas edition of the official Clubb Chimera Martial Arts Podcast (Jamie Clubb's Podcast) continues our tradition of answering listener questions along with a Christmas ramble. In this episode I look at the semantic issue of self-protection and self-defence whilst also covering the reason why personal security might be trained without hard skills yet hard skills should not be trained without personal security. Next I am pinned down by the first five things I would teach about self-protection to a non-martial artist and a martial artist. Then we look at what changes I have implemented during the Covid-19 restrictions of 2020 and what I plan on keeping post-pandemic. My last question for this show takes us all on a journey through weight divisions in combat sports and what can that mean for self-defence training. Weight categories appear throughout all mainstream full-contact (and semi-contact) combat sports yet Lethwei, Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, some MMA and several competitions retai

Halloween is the deadliest night and has the deadliest hour for child killings. It is also a night that sees raised levels of violence.  However, in order to properly tackle these problems as self-protection teachers and students we need to look at the facts behind this after we crush the spectre of the Candyman. Show Notes: Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramJamie Clubb's Ebooks Aftermath Part 1Aftermath Part 2: Curse of the Black DogPinocchio's Valentine and the Handshake Hit Razorblade in the Apple: The Social Construction of Urban Legends by Joel Best and Gerald HoriouchiJoel Best: Halloween SadismThreatened Children by Joel BestHalloween: The Fantasy and Folklore of All Hallows by Jack Santino"Halloween, Candy, Poison, and Razorblades: Why Worry?" • Return of Martial Movie Massacre

    26/07/2020 Duration: 49min

This year's editions of Martial Movie Massacre continue with even more content as we put to bed the myth that martial arts movies are largely responsible for martial art movie tropes and cliches. From "The Avengers" to "Bad Day at Black Rock" via the Eon James Bond franchise, the original Star Trek series and The Saint we look at the judo chop, the generic throw and the double-axe handle. These tropes and bad fight scene ideas emerged as Asian martial arts failed to get a foothold on the mainstream market until the 1970s, but once they were in place they would be hard to shake. Yet, if we look at an unsuccessful post WW2 movie, we note that things might have been different. Meanwhile, special guests, Peter Jones and Leigh Simms, deliver insightful and entertaining contributions on getting knocked out and heroes who break the law. Put down the gloves and pick up the pop corn!Show Notes: Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chim

  • Pinocchio's Valentine & the Handshake Hit

    13/02/2020 Duration: 32min

This episode explores possibly the most insidious area of personal security: falling in with the wrong company. Looking at the short and tragic life of the seventh St Valentine's Day Massacre victim as well as the way the oldest tricks in the book work consistently, even against the streetwise, we expose the importance of self-awareness. This is very much a part of the human condition and was something a native of 19th century Tuscany when he wrote the world's most published moral tale for children, Pinocchio. Self-Protection has long made the folly of dwelling too much on stranger danger when the risks to personal security are more likely to either come from those we know or our circle of influence.  Useful links for this episode:Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramJamie Clubb's Ebooks Massacre Victim StatisticsA Fatal Connection - Optical ConnectionsFind a Grave - Reinhart SchwimmerThe Adventures of Pinocchio PDFRoch
