  • Ticklishness Is Defense Against Lion Attack feat. Rebecca Cressman of FM100.3

    21/03/2017 Duration: 13min

This episode was all about tickling and being tickled! Rebecca Cressman of fm100 joined Ethan Millard in this episode. They discussed some of the theories that explain tickling. Some scientists believe tickling is a defense mechanism because some of our most ticklish places (neck, groin, etc) are our most vulnerable. Others like Dr. David J. Linden of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine believes tickling may be a defense mechanism against things like worms or insects that jump onto or try to burrow into our bodies. Charles Darwin believed tickling had an important social element. Sometimes parents use tickling to bond with their kids. He's not the only major historic figure to research this topic. Plato, Francis Bacon, and Galileo all made observations on tickling. Finally, we talk about what to do about it. Many believe there's nothing to be done, but we found a few ideas that may work for you. Dry skin can be more ticklish, so try moisturizing. Another technique is practice. If your feet are ticklis

  • Being Left Handed Does Not Make You A Witch! Feat- Rusty Keys of FM100.3

    03/03/2017 Duration: 13min

Rusty Keys of FM100.3 joins Ethan Millard to talk "handedness". If your child is left handed, they'll want to know why they're different than most people. Roughly 90% of humans are right handed and the answer lies in our genes though scientists still don't have a complete grasp on all the factors involved. Still, left- handers are living better than they ever have before. Even recently it was common for schools to attempt to force left handed children to use their right hand. This has deep roots.  For example, in Christianity, Jesus sits at the right hand of God and left handers were regularly accused of witchcraft or demonic possession. Indiana University keeps a pretty good list of left handers. Here are a few: Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George HW Bush, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, Harry S. Truman, Herbert Hoover, James A Garfield, Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford, Buzz Aldrin, Matt Groening, John Dillinger, Kurt Cobain, Glenn Fry, Robert Deniro, and Paul McCartney. • Dad, Why Am I Lethargic In The Heat?- Feat. Brian Foxx of FM100.3

    21/02/2017 Duration: 09min

Brian Foxx sits down with Ethan Millard to talk about something your kids may notice and ask about. Why do I get tired in the heat but have more energy in the cold? There is actually a pretty good explanation. In the heat, your blood vessels expand to increase blood flow to the skin and you might also be dehydrated. The cold increases your metabolism. You burn more calories and you can even lose a little more weight in the cold. This improved metabolism can be demonstrated through increased energy. 14/02/2017 Duration: 07min

This will happen to every parent. You're partway through a long drive, or even a short one, and your kid will be carsick. If you're lucky, you'll only have to deal with the complaining. Your just as likely to be cleaning up vomit. In this episode, Ethan Millard and his guest co-host Rebecca Cressman of FM100.3 will give you everything you need to know when your kid sings out from the back seat... "why am I carsick?" Carsickness is just a type of motion sickness, and motion sickness brings nausea and eventual vomiting- to everyone. Here's why: You sense motion in two ways, you see it with your eyes and you sense it in your inner ear. If those two inputs give you conflicting information, you get carsick. For example, if you feel the motion of the car but your eyes are fixed on a stationary book, boom! Carsick. It works the other way as well. If your eyes see motion but you don't feel it, you can also feel sick. That's why you may feel motion sickness at an Imax film. The good news is, there are ways to deal wit
