Synopsis

Our podcast dedicated to all things RuPaul's Drag Race, the world of Drag Race and the paradigm RuPaul has created with this TV show.

Episodes

  • Episode 98.5: NUANCE – The Optics of The Vixen vs. Aquaria

    09/04/2018

We go in deep on this week's episode of Untucked (surprise surprise), exploring this concept of The Optics, the roles each queen played in the conflict between The Vixen and Aquaria, and what it means to create a narrative. On a lighter note--we also talk about Dragula and Drag Race Thailand!

  • Episode 98: Drag Race Season 10 – Tap That App

    09/04/2018

Swipe right, Mary's! The queens are given the tall task of marketing three new dating apps that simply aren't a match. Asia O'Hara steals the show (and is starting to run away with the season) while Monique Heart expertly captains a sinking ship, due mostly to Mayhem lost at sea. But the real drama, as usual, is in the workroom, as a borrowed wig sets off one of the most interesting conflicts of the series. (We'll go deep on The Optics in Nuance.) We also discuss gays who believe in God, better app ideas, Birds of Drag Race the Sequel and death by air guitar.

  • Episode 97.5: NUANCE – Why You Need to See Todrick Hall’s “Forbidden”

    02/04/2018

On this week's Nuance, our thoughts on this week's Untucked, queening out on Monet X Change's "Street Beatz" videos, and some high praise for Todrick's new musical "Forbidden."

  • Episode 97: Drag Race Season 10 – PharmaRusical

    02/04/2018

The queens are pill-popping prescription peddlers in this week's lip sync musical. Kameron, Monet and Aquaria shine despite some strange staging (sorry Alyssa) and confusing costuming, but it was clear from early on that Kalorie and Eureka's thick and juicy tag team would be splitting up shortly. We discuss the many sides of The Vixen, our feelings on Andy Cohen, and of course, the Haunting of Miss Vanjie!

  • Episode 96.5: NUANCE – BenDeLaCreme Reads Fans For Filth

    26/03/2018

In this week's Nuance, we discuss Dela's open letter to toxic Drag Race fans, and explain how that interview with Trixie happened!

  • Episode 96: Drag Race Season 10 – Tens Across The Board

    26/03/2018

Remember All Stars 3, Mary? Me neither! Season 10 wasted no time gabbing our undivided attention and erasing any woes about where the series is going. The queens this season are not only ready to compete, they are ready to be good on TV. (Monique Heart, where have you been all our lives?) We get a welcomed throwback to Drag on a Dime, focusing more on the artistry of drag--but adding a little lukewarm drama with this emerging Cracquaria feud. (Alyssa vs Coco, this is not.) We come to Dusty's defense, are over the moon for Monet, and it bears repeating, in love with Monique Heart. Kalorie killed in the lip sync, but we're left wanting more of those cookies from Miss Vanjie...(Miss Vanjie...Miss...Vanjie....)

  • Episode 95: BONUS! An Evening with Trixie Mattel

    22/03/2018

On a snowy spring night in New York, we sat down with the freshly crowned Trixie Mattel to talk All Stars 3, her new album "One Stone"(now available on iTunes *wink*), The Trixie & Katya Show and our hot takes on Season 10. I'm writing this episode description waiting for the "JK," but there was no JK, Kimora. This really happened and it was amazing.

  • Episode 94.5: NUANCE – The Aftermath of All Stars 3

    19/03/2018

People are already ranking All Stars 3 as one of the worst of the franchise--are they just in their feelings for a few days or did this season really misstep somewhere? We try to figure out what might have gone wrong, and more so, what nerves were hit. (And why it's not that bad, Mary!) Plus, straight men who watch Drag Race, some new Matreon requests, and the conclusion of this season's Morality Tale!

  • Episode 94: Drag Race All Stars 3 Ep 8 – Jury Of Their Queers

    19/03/2018

All of Shangela's Game of Thrones references were terribly prophetic this week; much like many of the queens fighting for the throne, things took an unexpected twist for our professional comeback kid, landing her in ostensibly third place of a competition she was killing from the start. We spend quite a bit of time discussing how it all went down and what the response has been, highlights from the music video, and of course, all the nuance of that final lipsync...

  • Episode 93: BONUS! – The Wizard Of Oz

    15/03/2018

Click-clack those ruby slippers, Mary--we're going to Oz! As a special bonus episode for all our Mary's this week, we're looking back at a little known movie called "The Wizard of Oz." And as a couple of veritable Friends of Dorothy, we queened out on the gay archetypes represented in the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, the power of Dorothy Gale and what home really means. Keen to get more bonus episodes like this in your life? We're putting them out every week for our Matreons--just ease on down to patreon.com/alrightmary for all the details!

  • Episode 92.5: NUANCE – Michelle Visage Interview + Matreon Updates

    11/03/2018

It was a big week, Mary's! We talk about how things feel since discussing That Interview with Ru, Michelle's great interview with Vulture and some plans for our upcoming Patreon bonus episodes!

  • Episode 92: Drag Race All Stars 3 Ep 7 – My Best Squirrelfriends’ Dragsmaids Wedding Trip

    11/03/2018

For your consideration, Mary! The Top 5 queens are gunning for Oscars and headed for Razzies in one of the most convoluted acting challenges in Drag Race history. Trixie shines as Sharon, Shangela and Bebe play themselves in wigs, and Kennedy plays the role Ben was supposed to send her home and play. Oh yeah, and Morgan stopped by. We spend an inordinate amount of time remembering bird themed runway looks, discuss the etiquette of meeting the queens at the airport, and of course talk about Shangie's fat suit.

  • Episode 91.5: NUANCE – Is Drag Race a Boys Club?

    06/03/2018

RuPaul's recent comments about trans and cis female drag queens in his latest interview in "The Guardian" have been making waves on social media for all the wrong reasons, and we are here to break it down, Alright Mary style. We also take a deeper dive into BenDeLaCreme's self-elimination and other nuances we may have missed in our Hot Take recap of the last episode, answer some Mary emails and send you out with a Last Chance Lipsync you might recognize.

  • Episode 91: *HOT TAKE* Drag Race All Stars 3 Ep 6 – Handmaids To Kitty Girls

    02/03/2018

Oh hey kitty girl! It’s a special “hot takes” episode of Alright Mary—we’re queening out as the drama unfolds (well, in breathless (Mahoney) discussion during commercial breaks) when the eliminated queens return to not only get a chance to return to the race, but also to get some things off their chests (spoiler: it's not their breast plates). We discuss Morgan the adult, the downright curdling of Milk, Bebe’s nuance, and of course BendelaChrist, Savior of Drag Queens.

  • Episode 90.5: “Nuance” – Meet the Season 10 Queens!

    26/02/2018

On this week's Nuance, the Alright Mary aftershow, we discuss the Best Supporting Actresses of Snatch Game through the seasons before diving into our hot takes on the Season 10 queens, based mostly on their Meet the Queens videos and what scattered knowledge we already have of the queens.

  • Episode 90: Drag Race All Stars 3 Ep 5 – Pop Art Ball

    26/02/2018

Soup's on, Mary's! This week the queens are literally designing soup cans, instead of any other possible pop art inspired design challenge they could have done for All Stars 3. We come to Aja's defense after RuPaul made her the scapegoat for all the Millenials she wants off her lawn, spend an inordinate amount of time describing what a Shop Rite Can Can Sale is, and celebrate the nuanced perfection of Bebe's second Diana Ross of the season. (There goes the Mole Theory...)

  • Episode 89.5: Untucked – Does Drag Race Have a Race Problem?

    19/02/2018

This week, we're talking about the recent Slate article regarding racial bias in the Drag Race community. We also explore the ongoing morality theme in the eliminations, the perils of pleasing the judges and the case for a potential top 3 this season. Plus: some upcoming Matreon episodes announced!

  • Episode 89: Drag Race All Stars 3 Ep 4: SNATCH GAME!

    19/02/2018

It's not a party without punch and it's not a season of Drag Race without Snatch Game! (Looking at you, All Stars 1....) The theme this season is Herstory: queer legends like Paul Lynde and Crystal Labeija, legendary divas like Grace Jones and Jenifer Lewis and royal queens like RuPaul and M(a)ya Angelou. (Also: Phaedra Parks, a queen in the making.) We have a moment of appreciation for Aja's Crystal, break down what went wrong with Trixie, debate the validity of Notegate aka "Get Out of my Station" and nominate Chi Chi as the unofficial Miss Congeniality of the season. (PS: leave the USB.)

  • Episode 88.5: Untucked – Why is Trixie on AS3?

    12/02/2018

We're bringing you a separate Alright Mary Untucked again this week! We discuss what Trixie's really doing back in the race, issues with the Handmaid's Tale allusions and an interesting theme emerging in these eliminations.

  • Episode 88: Drag Race All Stars 3 Ep 3 – The Bitchelor

    12/02/2018

Our queens are looking for love in all the wrong reality shows this week with a pitch-perfect satire, "The Bitchelor." Bendelacreme and Kennedy get roses from us, but Milk's crazy stalker and workroom delusions about her performance were, well, a little thorny. We dig into everything that's wrong with "The Bachelor" franchise, our troubles with Trixie, Aja's runway redemption, those Game of Thrones references, and Kennedy's stellar work in that lipsync.
