  • Episode 49: Monut Madness!

    06/05/2016 Duration: 59min

This week's episode was recorded on location at East Side Mags in Montclair, NJ. Today's guest is Joe Caramagna, an Eisener and Harvey award nominated letterer who's worked on Marvel titles such as Daredevil, Captain America and New Avengers as well as serving as the writer of two creator-owned titles: The Further Travels of Wyatt Earp and Model Operandi. Fellow Jersey-based writer/artist Stephen Coughlin also steps in for a few quick comments in between drawing sketches for kids. Stephen is the creator of the title Sanctuary for Slave Labor Graphics. My conversation with Joe is as random as it is hilarious. We talk about his background in comics as a graduate of the Kubert School and starting out as an intern with Marvel Comics. This is Adrian Has Issues, so you know I gotta get some hockey-related banter in and we riff on the Minnesota Wild logo, defunct teams and how Joe's comic book career mirrors that of legendary goalie Martin Brodeur. • Episode 48: Audio Wheaties

    20/04/2016 Duration: 45min

Friend of the show Ashley Burgy returns to Adrian Has Issues, picking up where we left off in Episode 8. We originally planned to talk about a variety of topics within the NHL, but thanks to a steady diet of PBR and cherry-flavored spray candy we ended up falling down a rabbit hole and began riffing on bands that have performed at the Honda Civic Tour. For the next 50 minutes or so we get pretty geeky over pop/punk bands of the mid-2000s, so you'll hear us talk about bands like Motion City Soundtrack, The Matches and more. In This Episode: Adrian's weird hockey dreams! What's the deal with Christian Pop Punk? Are songwriters better when their lives suck? Adrian sings Hoobastank! And more!

  • Episode 45: Miller's Crossing

    31/03/2016 Duration: 50min

While the world debates the merits (or lack thereof) of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Adrian and his Canadian compadre Aidan Wilson discuss another controversial Batman story. Legendary comic book creator Frank Miller is best known for some noteworthy comics from a run on Daredevil to The Dark Knight Returns to the infamous graphic novel Holy Terror. Considering the fallout from the latter title, there was some concern that The Dark Knight III: The Master Race would be more of the same. How does the story stack up to the iconic original? Which iteration of Batman is the definitive version? Is Frank Miller the "racist uncle" version of George Lucas? These are among several questions that are answered in the latest episode of Adrian Has Issues! This and every episode can be found on iTunes and the Stitcher app, available for Android and iOS. • Episode 44: Defying Gravity

    20/03/2016 Duration: 40min

One of the most important aspect of comic books is finding the perfect creative team for each project. This can be a tricky task for some, which is why the Creator After Con Network (CACN) was created: to bring together writer, artists and publishers to start new projects. This week's guest is comic book author Jeff Rider. Under his umbrella Cloudwrangler Comics, and with programs such as CACN, Jeff has created an impressive library of titles: Gravity Matters (with Sweetie artist Sean Dillon and letterer Erica Schultz), Been Bit (with CACN co-creator Stan Chou) and Major Holmes and Captain Watson (with Carlos Cabaleiro and Rachel Deering). Jeff and Adrian also discuss the importance of proper networking among creators, unusual Christmas gifts and why it's often necessary for writers to get out of their characters' way to properly tell a story.
