    In the Show Me state this week, the question, Am I My Brother’s Keeper takes us to the suburban St Louis, MO community of Ferguson, and Big Data's potential for producing chaos.  Business as usual in the national media has been to raise the race card, carving a social justice angle out of a national security issue. Should the President of the United States give a speech about racism?  The President has given the speech, signed a memo defining a threat to our national security and outlined a plan.  We have not taken it serious enough. By now, you've seen the news. On Saturday, August 9th, 28 year-old Darren Wilson, a six year veteran police officer shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager.     Our search for answers continues this week as we explore endless possibilities for the President’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative.  Last week we looked at the U.S. Department of Education as a self-proclaimed lead agency for interagency efforts on behalf of historically disadvantaged children. We also looked into a federal Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs that’s been spewing policies and perpetuating programs that may be inconsistent with the president’s agenda.  We asked ourselves, now we ask you, if the Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs is working, why would the President need to create My Brother’s Keeper?  Join us as American Mentors look to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Homeland Security and the President's Council of Economic Advisers for some answers on economic security and some unconventional insight on the threat from toxic waste.

    YOUTH ACHIEVERS USA INSTITUTE (YouthUSA) promotes asset building through its capacity-building program, THE ANNUAL YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS. Since 1996, the program has partnered with families, churches and community groups to qualify youth as “assets” instead of liabilities to their communities.  A total of 86 young Americans now qualify as beneficiaries within the YouthUSA Corporate Village.  A free online application is available to any American citizen, age 7-24.  Each application presents “a vision of the future” through the youth’s goals in seven categories.  A “Whole Village” of 20 caring adults each invest $5 to establish a $100 savings asset in a partnering bank.
