  • Ep. 31 | Krisztina ‘Z’ Holly | Entrepreneur, Adventurer, & Creator of the 1st TEDx | Live from Los Angeles, CA

    23/01/2018 Duration: 43min

Krisztina ‘Z’ Holly seems to have done it all when it comes to tech, manufacturing, and adventuring. Though she goes by many titles – innovator, engineer, advisor, podcast host – her experiences and ability to help others utilize their “undiscovered talent” to make an impact are what really set her apart. While Z’s accomplishments include creating the first TEDx events, founding innovation centers at both MIT and USC, and working with multiple successful tech startups (and that’s just scratching the surface), she’s currently putting her energy into her maker-focused podcast “The Art of Manufacturing” and her role as the “Chief Instigator” for MAKE IT IN LA, Mayor Garcetti's non-profit initiative aimed at growing the manufacturing ecosystem in the Los Angeles region. Z and I met up in L.A. to shoot a manufacturing-related video on the beach, and we ended up recording a Pubcast as well! Z takes us through numerous stories that illustrate her career, as well as her approach to failure and being open to new exper

  • Ep. 30 | “Flight School” with Scout Beer | Live from Portland, OR

    13/01/2018 Duration: 39min

We’ve been traveling all over the world recently to find a good beverage, but it’s time to take things stateside again for another edition of “Flight School.” Portland, Oregon – in addition to being weird – is regarded as one of the best beer markets in the U.S. Today, we finally get to dive into the beer scene in The City of Roses with Joe St. Martin, co-founder of Portland’s Scout Beer. While most West Coast breweries are regarded as havens for hoppy IPAs, Scout is taking a different approach: They brew flavorful, complex beers that will definitely leave you craving another (even after a pint or two). From peanut butter porters to oatmeal pale ales, Joe walks us through a flight of 10 beers, and also takes us on an audio bar crawl to give us a rundown of the variety of beer you can find in Portland. After you listen, make sure to head over to PubcastWorldwide.com to leave a comment and sign-up for the monthly “Brewsletter.” Cheers!

  • Ep. 29 | Jan Macuch | Czech Beer & Food Tour Guide at Eating Europe | Live from Bonvivant’s in Prague, Czech Republic

    08/01/2018 Duration: 49min

We’re wrapping up our first international series with an episode in Prague, Czech Republic, a picturesque Central European city with a reputation for world-class nightlife, and beer that costs less than water! But while you’re undoubtedly familiar with Pilsner Urquell and other Czech lagers and pilsners, there’s a much deeper food & beverage scene that you might not know about… Jan Macuch is a software-designer-turned-tour-guide that gets #PaidToDrinkBeer. He leads Prague’s food & beer tours for Eating Europe, and he definitely knows his way around the craft beer, cocktails, and food in his home country. After growing up in the former Czechoslovakia while it was still under Communist rule, Jan has seen first-hand how the culture and culinary scene in the Czech Republic have evolved, turning Prague into the dynamic food & drinking city that it is today. Jan’s stories fill this episode with an incredible “cultural experience for your ears” from start to finish, and will certainly have you craving so

  • Ep. 28 | Croatia Craft Beer Edition | Live from Sanctuary Bar in Split, Croatia

    01/01/2018 Duration: 26min

Craft beer & cocktails are a relatively new thing for the country of Croatia. Only recently did Croatia start experiencing a craft beverage boom, and U.S. expat & cocktailer Tristan Delahunt is one of the individuals responsible for bringing these drinks to light. Tristan is the co-owner of Caffe Bar Sanctuary, the first craft cocktail bar in Split, Croatia. In this episode, Tristan and I discuss the rise of craft drinking culture in Croatia, and some of the unique beverages that Croatians have been enjoying for years before that.  After you listen, make sure to head over to PubcastWorldwide.com to leave a comment and sign-up for the monthly “Brewsletter.” Cheers!

  • Ep. 27 | Andy Ricker | Owner & Chef at Pok Pok | Live from Reel M Inn in Portland, OR

    23/12/2017 Duration: 50min

You may have heard of Andy Ricker before. Perhaps it was through his VICE documentary FARANG? Or maybe you’ve seen him featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives or cruising around the Chiang Mai, Thailand with Bourdain on Parts Unknown. Or maybe – more simply – you just know him has “that white guy that makes awesome Thai food” and sits at the helm of the Pok Pok empire. From his traveling the world to falling in love with Northern Thai cuisine, Andy takes us through his journey to starting his successful restaurants that now span both Portland and New York City. And there was probably no more appropriate time to feature Andy on the Pubcast. Right on the heels of the release of his 2nd cookbook The Drinking Food of Thailand, Andy continues to enhance and share his craft and passion for Thai cuisine in its truest form, and this time around, he focuses on the snacky foods that pair well with a night of drinking in Thailand.  We met at Reel M Inn in Andy’s home base of Portland, OR for this episode. A dive throu

  • Ep. 26 | “Flight School” with Standard Deviant Brewing | Live from San Francisco, CA

    19/12/2017 Duration: 34min

If you like beer and sh*t-talking, this episode is for you! We’re back with another edition of “Flight School,” this time with the gang at Standard Deviant Brewing in the heart of San Francisco, CA. Mark DeVito and Paul Duatschek – 2 of the brewery’s 3 proprietors – join us for this episode, and we basically spend as much time ripping on one another as we do talking about beer. As a brewery, Standard Deviant is veering away a bit from the trends that are characteristics of most West Coast breweries. Instead of brewing the most aggressively-hopped IPAs, these guys are focusing on traditional German styles like Kolsch and Altbier, while producing a fine lineup of single-hop pale ales as well. Come thirsty! This episode will have you craving a broader selection of beer sooner than you think. After you listen, make sure to head over to PubcastWorldwide.com to leave a comment and sign-up for the monthly “Brewsletter.” Cheers!

  • Ep. 25 | The Yacht Week | Live from the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Croatia

    04/12/2017 Duration: 40min

I’M ON A BOAT! That’s right, this episode DOES NOT take place in a bar or brewery, but rather aboard a sailing yacht in the middle of the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Croatia. This special edition of Pubcast Worldwide is all about The Yacht Week, and the crazy skippers, hostesses, and international party animals that make this week-long sailing event one of the biggest ragers on the planet!  On my recent holiday in Europe, I was lucky enough to have Brad Dupen as the skipper for our boat. Originally from South Africa, Brad has sailed and worked everywhere from the Bahamas to the coasts of England, and we decided his story was just too good to pass up for a Pubcast episode. While you’ll certainly get to hear about Brad’s own journey moving up in the nautical world, we also walk you through the antics of The Yacht Week as we share party stories over Croatian beers during our week at sea. But you won’t just have to hear it from us: plenty of other “Yacht Week All-Stars” contribute to the stories in this episode

  • Ep. 24 | Niket Desai | Internet Entrepreneur & Jester | Live from Church Key in San Francisco, CA

    17/11/2017 Duration: 55min

“Mischief-Maker.” “Jester.” These are the type of words Niket Desai uses to describe himself. Yeah, a more appropriate title would be “Internet Entrepreneur” or “Investor,” but it’s all about his “don’t take yourself too seriously” outlook… Niket has had a lot of fun in his life and career. From founding and selling the loyalty app startup Punchd to Google, to traveling and living around the world (including spots like Singapore and Israel) this episode is full of serendipity and the stories to go along with those. We cover everything from the lessons Niket’s learned working in the tech industry, some of the fun he’s currently having in the restaurant business, and even a pretty big discussion around how his travels have opened his mind to other worldviews (and in turn a deeper appreciation for differing perspectives). Niket introduced me to Church Key for this episode, which has since become one of my favorite San Francisco beer bars. After you listen, make sure to head over to PubcastWorldwide.com to leave

  • Ep. 23 | U.K. Beer Edition with Brew By Numbers | Live from London, England

    27/10/2017 Duration: 25min

That’s right, thirsty listeners! Pubcast Worldwide is now officially “Worldwide!” We travel to London, England for this episode for an impromptu afternoon at Brew By Numbers, a small-batch brewery right in the heart of London’s “Bermondsey Beer Mile,” where some of the city’s heaviest-hitters in England’s relatively new craft beer scene are located. Brewer Tobias “Toby” Gash joins the conversation to help us compare the respective beer scenes in the U.S. and his home in the U.K., where the craft beer phenomenon is roughly 5-years-young. But don’t let the age of the scene fool you…we tap into some delicious saisons and IPAs that could go up against North American beers any day of the week. Whether you’re looking for something light or something juicy, Brew By Numbers has you covered. They’re on-pace for producing more than 1 beer per week, and yes, they’re counting (obviously).

  • Ep. 22 | Chad Fish | Owner of the upscale “Hostel Fish” hostel | Live from Denver, CO

    12/10/2017 Duration: 33min

Do you have a hostel named after yourself? Didn’t think so. But Chad Fish does! And that’s why he’s on the show!  Chad is the owner of Hostel Fish, a place described as “a classy joint for travelers in downtown Denver.” Built in a former brothel that’s walking distance from some of Denver’s best nightlife, Hostel Fish not only has a ton of character, but it’s changing the game for hostels in the U.S. I met up with Chad the day after they threw their 2-year anniversary party, resulting in the first ever “Hangover Edition” of the Pubcast. Throughout our Bloody Mary-fueled conversation, Chad gives a crash-course in hostelling in North America, the Denver food & drink scene, and of course how marijuana legalization is impacting travel and tourism in Colorado. For an episode with such a diverse set of topics, Chad also brings his own wild stories of travel, entrepreneurship, and hostel life that are sure to cure any hangover.

  • Ep. 21 | “Flight School” with Broken Bat Brewery | Live from Milwaukee, WI

    30/09/2017 Duration: 29min

When most people think of Milwaukee, they think of beer. This is accurate. But don’t let your visions be clouded by thoughts of Miller, Schlitz, and Pabst Blue Ribbon. Broken Bat Brewery is a newcomer to the scene, and their baseball-themed brewery is already a home run within Milwaukee’s exploding craft beer scene.  In this edition of “Flight School,” Broken Bat Co-Founder Tim Pauly joins the Pubcast to take us through a flight of 4 summertime brews, while giving us a rundown of the origins of their brewery and the state of the Milwaukee beer scene, with plenty of baseball chatter mixed in. Step up to the plate and give this episode a listen. Play ball!

  • Ep. 20 | Mike Goncalves | Creator & Founder of Entrepreneur Fitness Academy | Live from Deschutes Brewery in Portland, OR

    23/09/2017 Duration: 35min

Mike Goncalves knows a thing or two about fitness, business, and – oh yeah! – Portuguese wine! Mike is a long-time health & wellness expert, and he recently founded Entrepreneur Fitness Academy – a 30-day online experience designed to help entrepreneurs create daily health habits that are quick, easy to follow, and last.  We met up at Deschutes Brewery in Portland, OR during the 2017 World Domination Summit (more on that in the show…) and chatted over a couple pints about the role of fitness in pushing yourself to achieve your goals in business, relationships, and all facets of life. But after enough talk about exercise, we enter the “Tipsy Talk” where we got to know Mike a bit better over a couple of drinking stories and talk of wine ranging from Portugal to Massachusetts to Oregon.

  • 019: Women’s Craft Beer Collective Creator Kristine Baker – Live from Culture Brewing in Solana Beach, CA

    11/09/2017 Duration: 31min

San Diego, California: commonly known as one of the best craft beer destinations on the planet. This was the Pubcast’s first trip to “America’s Finest City,” and it certainly won’t be the last! In the episode, Kristine Baker – the creator and chief organizer of the Women’s Craft Beer Collective – hosted us at Culture Brewing’s Solana Beach location (just 25 minutes north of San Diego), where she gave us a rundown of the region’s craft beer scene, and the strong role that women are taking in craft brewing. We covered everything from wet-hopping to the Great American Beer Festival to macramé, and drank some of Culture’s award-winning beer in the process. Conducting the interview while sitting atop kegs and the rest of the equipment in the brewhouse was certainly a unique setting for an otherwise picturesque SoCal beachside interview.

  • 018: Caitlin Landesberg: Brewmaster, Founder, & CEO of Sufferfest Beer Company – Live from Sessions in San Francisco, CA

    04/09/2017 Duration: 45min

Caitlin Landesberg has always identified as an athlete. Now, as the Founder, CEO, and Brewmaster at Sufferfest Beer Company, she’s just as much of a rockstar brewer as she is a runner. Sufferfest is a San Francisco-based beer company for athletes, by athletes, providing a gluten-removed beer that all can enjoy at the end of a workout or adventure. When Caitlin found out that she was gluten intolerant and eliminated it from her diet, post-race beers were also eliminated as well. Realizing that there were few good gluten-free beers on the market, Caitlin made her own, and Sufferfest Beer Company was soon born. In this episode, Caitlin and Chris sample all 3 of Sufferfest’s brews while discussing the origins of the company, the importance of a post-adventure beer, and of course some drinking stories from Caitlin, all of which seem to involve running. Sessions is the destination for today’s show, a craft beer and craft food oasis in the middle of San Francisco’s forested Presidio.

    22/08/2017 Duration: 40min

Houston, Texas is the most diverse city in the United States, and in this episode with 8th Wonder Brewery, we had our most diverse flight of beers. Coincidence? Ryan Soroka – President, Hype Man, “Entrebrewneur,” & Co-Founder at 8th Wonder – takes us through 9 different brews that all pay homage to Houston’s vibrant cultural heritage. Expand your mind beyond NASA and cowboys, and get ready for an episode covering Cajun crawfish boils, low-rider car culture, Chinatown, Houston sports, and Vietnamese coffee, just to name a few. We even learn about Ryan’s career and entry into the Houston food & beverage arena that led up to the brewery and associated food truck (Eatsie Boys). Oh, and BBQ…you can’t go to Houston and not talk about BBQ!

  • 016: “Flight School” with Texas Ale Project – Live from Dallas, TX

    23/07/2017 Duration: 37min

It’s been awhile since we’ve done an episode of “Flight School,” and there was no better place to start that up again than at Texas Ale Project in Dallas, TX. As you might know, Texas is HOT, and the beers that Texas Ale Project is brewing are the perfect answer to the Texas heat. With plenty of German-influenced beers or just a good brew with a clean finish, this flavorful flight made for a great reintroduction to Texas beer. In this episode, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Derrick “Moose” Rima, the Lead Brewer at Texas Ale Project, and quite frankly just a great guy to have a drink with. Moose first discovered his love for beer while serving in the military over in Germany. His stories give us an understanding of the Dallas craft beer community, and some of his own unconventional methods of staying hydrated while drinking.

    24/05/2017 Duration: 01h08min

Consider this somewhat of a bonus episode, thirsty listeners, because this one gets silly…but, it still packs a great message about travel and pursuing what moves you!  Full-disclosure: Casey Lembke and Ryan Drysdale are 2 of my good friends from college, so you can expect where that would lead our discussions…8 years ago, Ryan, Casey, and I dressed up as pirates and partied on boats in Lake Michigan. Now, we just drink at breweries in Denver. But in those 8 years, we’ve each covered a lot of ground. Casey has been a remote worker living in D.C., New Orleans, and Paris, while Ryan has spent time in Thailand, both U.S. coasts, and Chile; now, both call Denver home.
