  • 470: The Last of the Last

    17/03/2023 Duration: 01h11min

A weary and jaded loaner is given the task of delivering an orphan to an uncertain fate. Through various trials and ordeals he becomes both a father figure and protector putting the welfare of the child above all else. Yeah … Pedro Pascal is going to have to try harder not to get typecast. This week the Regular Joes take a last look at the last episode of The Last of Us, a show that, despite a decade of human biological apocalypse scenario content, proves it’s still possible to tell a compelling story in that genre. And pull in some serious audience numbers as well. Over on Disney Plus The Mandalorian delivers a great second Episode to its third season … prompting Tod and Dave to spend money. While on Paramount Plus, Star Trek Picard continues to give Treks fan a lot more of what they have been looking for. As you have come to expect, the Joes share their thoughts on all of the above. And, of course, there’s also the usual Random Topics and a round of What’s in the Box. Thanks for Listening!

  • 469: The Stars are Aligned

    10/03/2023 Duration: 01h12min

We have arrived. The nexus is upon us! We have achieved nerd nirvana! We are at the singular moment in time when we can expect weekly streaming doses of good (no, not yet great) Star Trek and Star Wars episodes. As, for the next several weeks, both Star Trek: Picard, and Star Wars: the Mandalorian will work their way through their respective third seasons. Some people are Star Trek fans, others are Star Wars fans, but the Regular Joe’s happen to be fans of both. So for the next few months anyways, they will revel in the weekly opportunity to boldly go … to a galaxy far far away. In other news Discovery is ending, so that’s something. The Joes also catch you up on the streaming shows they been catching up on. The Last of Us … wow. You’ll want to pace your self with that one. There’s also the usual Random Topics and a round of What’s in the Box. Thanks for Listening!

  • 468: You Changed Your Hair!

    03/03/2023 Duration: 01h35min

After calling out sick last week the Regular Joes are back. In reality they were just giving you lead time to watch Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the first two episodes of season 3 of Star Trek Picard for which there will be SPOILERS. Depending on your perspective, the third, and reportedly final season of Picard, could either be the third strike for this coda to  the much revered Star Trek: The Next Generation, or the perfect example of “third time’s the charm.” As you likely know by now, opinions will vary. While we are on the three thing, the third Ant-Man film (or is it Ant-Man and the Wasp II?) out earned it predecessors out of the gate but has been less well received critically. Find out what the hosts think, and most importantly, Barry’s, and M.O.D.O.K.’s reaction to Hope’s new hairstyle. There’s also the usual Random Topics and a collaborative round of What’s in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  • 467: You Kill Me, Gordon

    17/02/2023 Duration: 01h13min

It’s the Regular Joe’s annual Super Bowl post game show where the hosts run down all the best moments from the commercials vying to come out on top in this highly anticipated annual advertising competition. In between these ads, two groups of grown men also spent hours fighting over a ball. Not sure why. Also this week three, recovering former Walking Dead fans give the Last of Us a Try. From the previews the new series, based on the hugely popular video game, definitely seems to trod on familiar ground. Will first impressions indicate otherwise? There’s also the usual Random Topics and a round of WHAT’S in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  • 466: 3 Hot Dog Shaped Thumbs Down

    10/02/2023 Duration: 01h04min

This week the Regular Joes take a look at Everything and Everywhere All at Once (2022) the heavily Oscar nominated film staring Captain Georgiou from ST: Discovery, Short Round from Temple of Doom, and Jamie Lee Curtis from, well … Jamie Lee Curtis. Opinions vary, but clearly If you are not at all into Marvel or the superhero genre this might be the best multiverse hopping film you saw last year … and coincidentally, the only one. Next up the Joes take a first look a The Recruit a new Netflix series about a 24 year old CIA lawyer Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher from Black Adam) who probably should not have survived his first week on the job. The Recruit, like it’s protagonist, struggles to figure out which lane it’s supposed to be in. Nevertheless, with strong creators such as Doug Liman, there is potential. There’s also the usual Random Topics and a round of WHAT’S in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  • 465: Make it So … or at Least better?

    03/02/2023 Duration: 01h18min

It’s all Joes on deck as the regular hosts welcome Irregular Joes Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix. As they tend to do when everyone jumps in it’s kind of a free for all with no set topic. Not that that matters, as these guys have no problem filling an hour or so. Hopes are universally high for the final season of Picard. But hopes have been high before. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me three times … ? Fortunately we won’t have to wait long to find out. This week’s round of What’s in the Box features several long awaited items including Hasbro’s very large and very impressive Ghostbusters Proton Pack. Thanks for listening!

  • 464: Bizarro World?

    27/01/2023 Duration: 01h01min

This week’s episode was recorded in an alternate reality where Tod doesn’t watch the entire season of a TV show before Barry and Dave get through the pilot episode. First up is Paper Girls from Amazon Prime, which is based on a comic by Brian K. Vaughan, that (again alternate reality) Tod has never read. Next is Kaleidoscope, from Netflix, the Giancarlo Esposito led ensemble heist drama that breaks conventions as well as vaults. More of a heads up than spoiler, you want to watch the “White” episode last. In other weirdness, Barry gives a thumbs down on Willow the series and Dave references his favorite Tim Burton film. They also cover the New trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3, which may well be the best thing there is in a certain galaxy far, far, away. And then there’s What’s in the Box, where the three hosts talk about the, EXO-6 Star Trek the Motion Picture: Kolinahr Spock figure. Which is equally awesome and scarce. Thanks for listening!

  • 463: Barry and Dave’s Excellent Adventure

    20/01/2023 Duration: 01h17min

This week, Barry and Dave return from vacation and catch Tod up on everything he missed. Which, based on the rundown of the itinerary from their week in Orlando, was a lot. We all know Dave hits the parks with a plan that makes the D-Day invasion look like an afterthought, and this outing was true to form. Find out what they saw, and, more importantly, bought at Disney, Universal and elsewhere. As well as details of Barry’s long delayed Rise of the Resistance experience(s). Yes, there is finally balance in the force. After that they catch up on what is worth watching as we wile away the winter months in typically less hospitable place than Florida. Thanks for listening!

  • 462 - 2022 in Review

    06/01/2023 Duration: 02h22min

As we leave 2022 behind the Regular Joes, along with Irregular Joes Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix, take one last look in the rear view mirror. What TV shows and Films, from a surprisingly full year, did they like best? What were their biggest disappointments? A few of the answers will likely surprise you, like Brian’s woefully misguided dislike for one show . . . just for an example. As listeners know, the Joes are all collectors, and they also cover the things they were most excited about from the past year, as well as the things they are looking forward to in the year to come. There’s also a recap of last year’s resolutions (never good to scrutinize those) and some likely equally well intentioned plans for 2023. Finally, the hosts bid farewell to those who left us this past year. As is tradition, this was a drinking show. So mix up your favorite Tiki drink, kick back, and take one last look at the year that was. DISCLAIMER: If you listen while commuting Regular Joes Entertainment LLC. does not condone consu

  • 461: What’s in the Boxes?

    31/12/2022 Duration: 31min

As 2022 came to a close, the Regular Joes convened at a not so secret location (Dave’s House) to break bread and to prove once again that with a little thought you can actually buy gifts for people who literally have everything, it’s the annual Regular Joe’s gift exchange where you listen in as we open presents!  We will be back next week with the full crew for our 2022 year in review show.  We sincerely thank you all for listening and hope you all have a very safe and happy New Year.

  • 460: Brought to You By the Letter W

    23/12/2022 Duration: 01h06min

This WEEK WE WATCHED WILLOW and WEDNESDAY. The two shows, released respectively by Disney+ and Netflix couldn’t be more different. Willow is a follow up to the 1988 film of the same name. Wednesday is the most recent offshoot of the Addams Family franchise whose lineage goes back to Charles Addam’s cartoons dating from the late 1930s. While both are legacy properties, one seems to have a bit more life in it than the other. Without getting too deep into spoiler territory, let’s just say the odds against the Regular Joe’s achieving consensus on these series was pretty high. Barry has loved Willow since seeing it as a child/young adult. Dave, who has referred to Willow as “the worst film ever,” also harbors an endless pit of bile for director Tim Burton who is deeply involved with Wednesday. Tod doesn’t really have a dog in the hunt, but watched all available episodes because, well, he’s Tod. If you’re curious how all this plays out you should listen. You may be surprised. There’s also the usual Random Topics an

  • 459: It’s Not the Years, It’s the Sequels

    16/12/2022 Duration: 57min

After a brief hiatus, the Regular Joe’s are back. This week they dig into new trailers for two of the most eagerly awaited films due in spring of 2023. First up is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It’s been a long time coming, but in June we will see the final chapter in the Indiana Jones saga. Clearly there’s lots of action, Indy style adventure, and even Nazis to punch. Could this be the “do over” we’ve been waiting for since 2008? Next up it’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is reputed to be James Gunn’s final take on the merry band of misfits he introduced to the Marvel Universe just eight years ago. If the trailer is any indication of what we can expect, things are about to get ugly for the crew of the Bowie. There’s also the usual Random Topics and a round of What’s in the Box featuring some long-awaited items. Because pre-orders don’t really count as buying stuff for yourself just a few weeks before Christmas, right? Thanks for listening!

  • 458: Bacon Wrapped

    02/12/2022 Duration: 01h12min

In what is clearly the most eagerly anticipated Holiday Special since 1978, Disney + / Marvel has just dropped The Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special. And it’s everything you, or at least the Regular Joes, could have imagined. In addition to doing something no MCU property has ever attempted before, the special proves that time honored rule that, the one thing that makes everything better is, yes, Bacon. While we are on the topic Disney+ Andor, the twelve episode prequel to Rogue One, just wrapped. In many ways this was a Star War series like no other and opinions widely vary. See where the Regular Joes come down on the first of two planned seasons. There’s also the usual Random Topics and a round of What’s in the Box.

  • 457: The Peripheral

    25/11/2022 Duration: 01h15min

This week, the Regular Joes start off with a tribute to Jason David Frank, best known for portraying the Green Power Ranger.  Jason was a staple at conventions all around the world and his loss has been felt across the pop culture community.  Next the Joes talk about the premiere episode of the Amazon Prime original series “The Peripheral” and let you know if they think it’s worth a try.  There’s also the usual Random Topics and a round of What’s in the Box.  Listen all the way to the end for an encore presentation of our 2017 interview with Jason David Frank, and as always, Thanks for listening!

  • 456: Black Panther - Runtime Forever

    18/11/2022 Duration: 01h11min

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the Multiplex there’s yet another superhero film. This week it’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which not only crushed DC’s recent offering Black Adam at the box office but runs more than 35 minutes longer. Because that’s better, right? This week the Regular Joes break down Wakanda Forever (Note: There will be SPOILERS) which seems tasked with giving both closure and, ever so slowly, moving the MCU forward into Phase 5. Is this the film you’ve been hoping for? Well, if you are the guy who has been waiting to see Namor, aka The Submariner, make his big screen debut since 1939...well, some stuff has changed. Wakanda Forever! This week the Joes take a further step toward being cranky old men as they inaugurate a new segment, The Airing of Grievances, as Barry tries to give someone you have never heard of money...and they want more. There’s also the usual Random topics and a round of what’s in the box. Thanks for listening!

  • 455: Isn’t that Gigi Edgley?

    11/11/2022 Duration: 01h10min

Each year the Regular Joes record their annual RI Comic-Con podcast episode from a particular Sofa in the lobby of the Omni Providence Hotel. This year the Joes called in a Power Ranger for assistance as Rocky the Red Ranger Steve Cardenas both cleared the sofa and sat down for an interview. Some years the lobby is a gold mine for interviews, other years not so much, but it’s always a good time for the Joe’s to catch up in person and talk about the show. While every RJ episode is recorded live, few are quite as free flowing the the RI excursions. It’s best to listen without any pre-conceived expectations, especially when they introduce a new piece of equipment, the remote mic. With an assist from Viva Mexico (not sponsored) margaritas Dave wanders the lobby and engages with several convention attendees with this new toy. Note for 2023. Margaritas and a remote mic, always a winning combo.  Thanks for Listening!

  • 454: Props to Lower Decks

    04/11/2022 Duration: 01h10min

With a week before the Annual (no one counts 2020 anymore) RI Comic Con/Regular Joes Meet Up the Regular hosts are Joined by Irregular Joe Brian Mix to talk about the the upcoming (happening right now actually) Prop Store Movie Memorabilia Auction. There are some truly amazing offerings, including Roy Batty’s Blade Runner trench coat and the freakin huge “miniature” model drop ship from Aliens, as well as a few obscure things from films only Barry is young enough to fondly recall. Once the coveting segment is over the Joes move on to Star Trek: Below Decks, which in its third season has won all but one holdout over to its uniquely Trek centric animated goodness. There’s also Random Topic’s, and a partial round of What’s in the Box? Which could just as well be called What’s With the Fiscal Restraint Dudes? This economy isn’t going to fix itself on its own. Thanks for listening!

  • 453: Autograph, Smell or Pass

    28/10/2022 Duration: 01h07min

This week the Regular Joes take a deep dive in to Random Topics, covering Star Wars, The Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the soon to be under new Management DCU. Which basically means, there’s plenty of Marvel trailer talk, the inevitable rehashing of how recent Star Wars films may, or may not, have gone wrong, and a degree of cautious optimism for where DC goes from here. Next up it’s a run down of guests for the upcoming Rhode Island Comic Con from the somewhat unique Regular Joes perspective. You won’t want to miss, Autograph, Smell or Pass. There’s also a round of what’s in the box, because those preorders all come in eventually. Thanks for Smelling!

  • 452: She-Hulk … by Night?

    21/10/2022 Duration: 55min

With dozens of films, and now several streaming series, the Marvel Cinematic Universe always runs the risk of becoming predictable. Yeah, not so much. This week the Regular Joes take a look at Disney+/Marvel’s most recent offerings, She Hulk Attorney at Law, a limited run series, and Werewolf by Night, the first MCU standalone “Special Presentation.” If it were a comic Werewolf by Night would be called a One-Shot. The self contained story, with roots in Marvel’s 1970’s flirtation with the macabre, introduces Werewolf Jack Russell, demon hunter Elsa Bloodstone and swamp creature Man-Thing to the MCU live action pantheon. If you have any fondness for 50’s horror films you need to see it. She-Hulk is a workplace comedy about Bruce Banner‘s cousin, which predictably, has been relentlessly targeted by online trolls. This is fitting, as the ultimate bad guys in the series turn out to be SPOILER … a collective of online trolls. If that seems to meta this may not be the show for you. But if you’re comfortable with th

  • 451: Quantum Leap 2022. Oh Boy!

    07/10/2022 Duration: 01h07min

A while back The Regular Joe’s sifted through this season’s network TV offerings and settled on just a single show to try. This year the network folks tasked with endlessly revisiting decades old air schedules in hopes of breathing new life into an old show or premise have finally gotten around to Quantum Leap. While the original series (1983-1989) was not exactly high art, it did have a unique premise. Which this successor can’t claim. Does it live up to the original? Can it stand on its own? Can a cast of attractive, racially and gender balanced characters get us to actually care? The new trailer for Wakanda Forever is out, and there’s a whole lot going on there. The Joe’s dig in and try to make sense of this latest peek at what is now reported to be Marvel’s second longest film, soon to grace a multiplex ear you. And because, random happens, there’s also a fairly epic chunk of random topics. Thanks for listening!
