  • 066: How to teach our kids about sustanibilty

    17/07/2018 Duration: 26min

During the 9 days we have an extra sensitivity to sustainability because we don't buy new clothing, many of us don't do laundry or limit the laundry we do, and we are being extra careful with the things we own. This week we talk about how to talk to our kids about sustainability (hint- a lot), why we should, and the relationship between being sustainable and having less with Jewish values. I would say it is one of my most frequently asked questions, and while I am not a parenting expert, I believe teaching kids anything comes down to being and example and practicing what we preach. The most essential thing you can do is to figure out what you want your home to look like! In this week's JTO podcast I talk about my struggle with food, how it makes getting dinner on the table a challenge for me, my kids issues with food, and how I manage my time to get shabbat on the table without feeling totally overwhelmed. (Hint: I keep it simple.) As a bonus this week I made this awesome shabbat prep list for you, you can download it in PDF or in Google Sheets. (You know how much I love spreadsheets, right?) http://bit.ly/2MGQO0j It is very similar to how I make my list for shabbat, I made it a bit more fancy for you! Chaya Hinda and her course Jewish Positive Thinking really changed my life and helped me make some big changes in my life and feel positive and secure about those changes. We discuss how to get rid of worry, why you should let go of extra stuff, how our core beliefs can change the outcome of what we do, and time management. • 062: Managing your Time- tips and tricks to use right now!

    18/06/2018 Duration: 36min

This week I was inspired by a podcast with Heather Dean on aish.com http://bit.ly/2K5Se6G when she interviews Rabbi A.L. Nivins. He said something that interested me, time is not our own, it doesn't belong to us. My other friend said to me, time is like money, you can track it! But I don't think that is true, you can't put time in the bank, save it for a rainy day, or earn more. The best thing we can do is realize, time is not something we can control and not stress over when things don't go our way. I cover some tips for budgeting time, why using a calendar is so important, how meeting requests keep me happily married, and how getting it on the calendar makes it real and gets it off my mind. Suzanne is committed to not only making products that are sustainable and eco-friendly but also not purchasing clothing where workers are not treated fairly and who are not payed a living wage. She uses indigenous plants to Israel and natural dyes when she produces her scarves and is planning to expand her offerings soon. • 060: The true cost of storage

    06/06/2018 Duration: 21min

This week I talk about the true cost of storing our possessions. One of my Conquer Your Clutter students told me that she has a storage unit, and I figured out that over time it would cost her around $6000. I was astounded, and felt like there were better ways to use the money. (She thought so also!) Besides for the money she was paying directly for the storage unit there were other costs associated with storing things, like the cost of storage containers, the time we spend organizing, sorting, and packing things up for storage, and the damage we do to the things that aren't stored properly because there is too much junk around. Does this sound like you? Drop me a line and let me know if it does! • 057: Shavout & Shmita. How matan torah teaches us to reduce

    23/05/2018 Duration: 21min

In this episode we will discover why how Matan Torah (receiving the Torah) is connected to shmita and how that teaches us to reduce our waste. Included are some actionable tips to reduce right now. The main point of giving the Torah at Mt. Sinai was to teach the Jewish People about the Sabbatical Year, shmita. But what does the year of rest have to do with giving the Torah, well, it teaches us that during that year, the land reverts back to G-d for a rest, and it shows us we don't really own the land. Just as we don't really only the land, can we every really own our things, or do they own us? Since we can't take it with us, we should reduce now, allowing us to truly enjoy what we have!
